Yes, try to imagine a country where churches and schools do not have armed guards.

Where schools do not need to be hardened against armed intruders.

Where shoppers do not shop while carrying weapons.

Where people can go to the theatre unarmed.

Where life counts for more than the imagined safety of a fearful few who insist on their right to always carry a weapon designed to kill.

Or, if one cannot imagine such a thing, vacation in Canada and no imagination will be needed.

5. I was watching Bowling For Columbine

about a month ago (I saw it about 20 years ago) and Michael Moore did a large segment on how instilling fear is used by the media to boost ratings. They promote and exaggerate the actual amounts of violence, thefts, etc and has fueled gun buying in the US. Meanwhile the opposite is true...violence around the world is at its lowest point ever. However, the news needs to boost ratings and make more money so they keep sensationalizing events to make them seem more prevalent than they actually are. Make people unrealistically fearful and they buy guns...simple.

And the local news shows are the worst. If there are not enough murders in your area, the local news will tell you of murders everywhere kin the US.

And guns are always promoted as self-protection, never as tools to facilitate murder.

A trained security staff for protection proved to be effective. That doesn't mean that encouraging an armed population makes our society safer. I think we need to use common sense when it comes to Second Amendment rights. Sensible gun laws including universal background checks for gun purchases, extreme risk protection orders (also called red flag laws), gun licensing, assault-weapons bans and bans on high-capacity magazines are what most people want. I admit I am uncomfortable when I see someone walking around ANYWHERE with a gun openly (open carry) and will leave as soon as possible. Nothing at all reassuring to be around a group of "Ammosexuals" ( A person obsessed with owning guns; a zealous supporter of the right to bear arms) and the politicization of guns just adds to our problem.---Those "heroes" that protected the church deserve praise for their response but I do not think they would be singing ‘Gunbaya,’ which is like ‘Kumbaya’ with shooting after such a sad event. Like everything else in this wacky world, we need to use common sense when it comes to gun laws.

13. Second Amendment Rights?

Until the right-wing NRA became involved, the Second Amendment was interpreted correctly for the most part. Now it's a free-for-all with an overabundance of armed idiots roaming our streets. The Second Amendment says absolutely nothing about self-protection and much about a well-regulated militia.

The Second Amendment does not give anyone the "right" to be armed outside of the home, and certainly not in my home. If someone has a gun in their home my family and I will not be coming over to visit their frightened paranoid asses.

14. I agree with your opinion for the most part. However, I live in the country and I use my rifle for

varmints several times a year. Does that mean you wouldn't come for a visit? I'm not frightened at all and I do believe that the proliferation of guns in the US makes all of us less safe. Especially handguns, assault weapons, and those who should not be allowed to possess firearms. I am against open carry and CHL laws also. It seems like EVERYTHING has become politicized these days and that is just crazy. Unless we can come together as a nation then expect our Democracy to continue to deteriorate. That doesn't mean we have to abandon our core beliefs but politics should not dictate all things.

The Second Amendment is used to justify a lot of things that State governments allow in terms of guns. In reality is just mostly pandering to those who use the debate on guns to get elected these days.

visit you if you keep a gun, and the reason isn't political -- it's personal. I will not knowingly put myself or my family in harm's way regardless of a gun owner's good intentions. YMMV...
