After Newtown, NRA advocated required mass mental health testing
they supported mental health testing as a way to institutionalize people and by that means it would prevent them from purchasing guns.
they continued to oppose background checks and other requirements to purchase guns, so the mental health testing fails to do anything in most cases unless it locks people up.
the only other possible explanation is that they knew their argument was BS but it was all they had at the time and since they've lied in previous PR wars, why shouldn't they in this instance?

(11,996 posts)else thought they would be scrambling to defend them. The NRA want SO much for guns to be an accepted way of life..we even see it posted up here all the time: 'guns are here to stay, for good or bad they are a fact that won't go away, so just deal with them (psstt..without actually dealing with them, please)'.
Of course there can be no steps taken to limit the numbers, no effective means of removing any from society, no meaningful ways to control the illegal flow. It's all BS and re-direction.
