The German word is "Handschuh" -- "hand shoe", which shows a relationship which simply doesn't exist in English.

I understand that the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis, which says that one's language determines the way one thinks, has gone out of fashion. However, I believe that one's language influences the way one thinks. I know that for some things, I can express myself more easily in German than I can in English, even though my ability to speak German is inferior to my ability in English.
