I haven't seen it yet and I'm curious as to people's reactions.

(29,922 posts)The book definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat, so I would expect the same of the flick.
We can touch base on Monday and compare notes.

(38,723 posts)Unfortunate casting. I think Ben Affleck is such a bad actor.

(4,178 posts)The movie is very well done. I thought Affleck was terrible. My first reaction was,do this again with a real actor.
Later I thought maybe Affleck got it right and he was acting like an emotionless ass because that is who Nick Dunn is.
The lead actress is great. Her psycho craziness is so over the top, the audience actually laughed out loud at some of the biggest shock moments.
If you read the book,it is worth seeing. If you didn't read the book, you are in for quite an experience.

Does the book end differently?
I have an anniversary edition of Fatal Attraction that has Lyne's original ending that didn't test well.
I feel like I saw the "Original Ending".

(16,196 posts)I read the book but didn't quite remember the ending until well into the movie.
whathehell
(29,922 posts)that I was disappointed in it.
My reasons: 1.
The main character of Amy was characterized, IMO, differently and not nearly
as interestingly as in the book. For at least the first 2/3 of the book, she was snarky, witty and ironic,
In other words, funny and even likeable. I could actually identify with her, to an extent.
The movie, in my view, showed NONE of that -- She was played as a blank slate,
almost -- unsmiling and serious. I agree that this was one aspect of her personality,
but it barely surfaced until the 3rd act.
2. I found it way too graphic in terms of violence, and gratuitously foul-mouthed, in an
anti-female way. I found this depressingly misogynistic, especially since most of it came
from the women.
I mean, seriously, has anyone ever actually heard of "Double Twat" panties?
I should add the Mr. Whathell disliked as well.

I thought Rosamund Pike was outstanding; a serious award-season contender, imo.

(29,922 posts)I liked the book as well but did NOT like the movie...This may have been
one of those books that are just not easy to film, although by the reviews
many liked it. I don't know how many of those also read the book, though.
Here's my complaint:
I found the title character rather likable for at least the first half to 2/3
of the book -- I could relate to her to a certain extent and I frequently found her funny.
She is NOT any of that in the film; There is NO nuance for either of the main characters, actually.
Both leads come off as flat, and in her case, one dimensional, which I thought was
a real loss.
I should mention that I also agree with Deb J on the film's dark, depressing quality.
and it ties into my criticism of Amy's portrayal, because a little humor would have alleviated
that.

(4 posts)Am I the only one who did not like this movie? The acting was great, but it was waaaaay to long and the ending was awful. Just really unsatisfying.
whathehell
(29,922 posts)and, unlike the book on which it was based, utterly lacking in even the smallest bit of comic relief.
