LOS ANGELES
Harrison Ford is set to reprise his role as Rick Deckard in a sequel to the dystopian, neo-noir Blade Runner, more than 31 years after the film first premiered.
Ridley Scott directed the 1982 movie, which was adapted from the Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
Alcon Entertainment announced Fords role and said Scott will serve as an executive producer on the sequel.
Production on the film will begin in the summer of 2016.

(16,104 posts)Rutger Hauer stole the show, and his role was what made it epic, along with the soundtrack. It was really just a compelling detective story with another great villain.
A sequel would be - interesting.

(6,261 posts)Blade Runner is one of my favourite movies of all time. It's vision of a horrible dystopic future haunted me for years. It's open ended and open to several interpretations, and I'd like it to stay that way. I don't need a sequel that e.g. spells out whether Decker is a replicant or not.
Also, remembering the complete balls-up that Ridley Scott made of Prometheus doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

(24,812 posts)I think that some movies stand quite perfectly on their own. And isn't the movie a little "long in the tooth" to be making a sequel of it? I can't imagine exactly where the story would even go from where it ended. BR was IMHO the classic example of a good standalone movie. It told a great story and, while somewhat open to interpretation at the end, basically resolved the main plotline of Deckard hunting down the replicants and then leaving to somewhere unknown with Sean Young's character, who was also sort of an enigma as well. BTW one of my favorite Japanese anime miniseries, Bubblegum Crisis, gave more than a few nods to the movie.

(147 posts)Today's audience isn't interested in Ford, her wasn't that good in the original. But since he'll be in it, I hope it's a cameo part.
