So I'm a decent writer tired of the pretentious critics poo-pooing on the movies and TV shows I like. So after years of threatening to do it, I started GeekTheDog.com. I don't try impress with over-the-top displays of cinematic knowledge because movies are entertainment, not fine wines. But I do like to inject a little political thought in some of my reviews.
If I'm going to take this beyond just a blog, I really need contributors.
If you're a writer and feel compelled, I'd love to run your stuff. Just getting started. No money. All site expenses are out of my pocket at the moment. Please let me know.

(6,439 posts)If you're going in with the idea that it's all just disposable pop as opposed to some fantastic fine wines in the mix, you're doing it wrong.

(43,891 posts)To paraphrase Anton Ego, Ratatouille - The life of a critic is easy. They risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and themselves to their judgment. They thrive on negative criticism which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth critics must face is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than their criticism designating it so.

(43,891 posts)Movies were originally created as entertainment. When someone constantly looks for some greater meaning in films beyond escapism then disparages them when they can't find it, they're missing the point. The attitude becomes snobbery - if the great unwashed likes it, how can it be any damn good?
I'm reminded of what HitFlixs Drew McWeeny said in his review of the Three Stooges: Im not supposed to say anything nice about this film. Thats the message that has been sent loud and clear ever since the first trailer for the movie arrived online.
