I have a friend who is insulin diabetic and his wife tells me he is not

consistent with his care. He is going to help me with something around the house and I want to feed him, too. Any suggestions on what is something quick and healthy I can offer him for lunch? How about snacking while working, as the work is outside? How often for snacks???

3. Denial gets you nowhere

He won't be getting any help from her.

By denying he has a problem it allows her to do nothing!

I know, I have MS and what is left of my family believes I am a fake.

That's an easy thing to say and excuses them from having to do anything to help me.

It creates a sad, isolated existence.

As for food, I'd see what foods are good for diabetics and get some of the food that sounds good to you to him!

& recommend!

Peanut butter + apple slices or carrot sticks
Some diabetics like to have snacks @ 10am and 3 pm-
Depends how brittle his diabetes is.

substitute for apple is jicama which tastes a lot

Broccoli baby carrots and dip?

My dip recipe is really tasty and simple
1 small cup sour cream
1 packet of knoor's vegetable soup mix to taste, let sit in fridge a few hours and serve. It will be enjoyed.

Another thing nuts and cheese
Get a brie and mixed nuts(unsalted)
And a few triscuits the triangle spicy ones.

13. I'm a non-insulin dependent diabetic and this is what I eat for lunch every day:

1/4 avocado sliced
1/2 can of gourmet solid white albacore tuna packed in water mixed with 1 tsp of olive oil mayonnaise
3-4 strawberries sliced
24 raw almonds
1 square 90-92% dark chocolate

Sometimes the strawberries get switched out for orange or apple slices.

This lunch doesn't raise my glucose levels much at all and I truly never grow tired of it. It helps that my husband prepares it for me.

Good for you for thinking of your friend's medical needs while in your company. Hopefully, he'll take a hint and take more responsibility for monitoring and keeping his diabetes under control himself.

15. That sounds really good. When my H was dying of cancer he ate a lot of 90-92%

dark chocolate. I don't eat chocolate so haven't bought any since he died.

I can sit and eat a whole avocado by myself.

14. Insulin doesn't behave consistently, sadly. :( I'd offer him anything you'd offer another friend.

But ... have sugar (soda/treats etc.) around in case his blood sugar gets low. Hard work can drop blood sugar.

My simple suggestion would be to have submarine sandwiches and soda - with and without sugar - to offer him. No need to overthink it. Just have a balanced lunch - even thin crust pizza and raw veggies should be fine.

My husband is insulin dependent (type 1 diabetic) and has been since his tween years. He eats anything he wants but watches his blood sugars. He's a senior citizen now and is doing well overall. *knocks on wood*

It's very thoughtful of you to ask.
