Losing things

I guess I’m just venting here. My daughter, just turned 26, was diagnosed with severe ADHD as a child. One aspect is that she constantly loses things: glasses, her debit card, etc. 2 years ago she got hearing aids, the tiny kind that go behind the ears. I was sure that would be trouble, and sure enough, she called yesterday to tell me they are lost. She thinks she lost them at work, which is a small zoo where she has a seasonal job. It will cost $1500 to replace them. She is going to try looking with a metal detector, but that is a long shot. She is also off her Vyvanse, due to moving to a different state and changing insurance. Hopefully that will be resolved soon.

I just get SO frustrated with the constant losing things and general messiness of her living quarters. As an extremely organized person it drives me crazy. Thanks for listening 😄

I’m the one who loses stuff in my family. I know how frustrated people get. Good luck.

Edit: Mr Lake makes an inventory when we leave the house.

If I drive I have to give him the keys immediately after.

I don’t handle much money.

Every time I leave a store I check I have wallet, passport, glasses, keys before I leave even if I didn’t use them.

If I used a credit card I have to look in my wallet to make sure I put it back.

Even so I can lose those car keys walking into the house.

3. sometimes this issue can be alleviated by developing habits that help to keep things in place

I had a problem with this but it's not nearly as bad as it was. I had to develop habits to keep things in the same place all the time. I am also the one that suffers ALL the consequences of my lack of attention to important things like glasses, debit cards, etc. No idea if that is an issue or not. I'm sorry for your frustration.

4. Same with me. I do a quick "spot check" before I leave a place.

Wallet, phone, eyeglasses, keys, jacket, gloves. It is now so routine it is automatic and just takes a second.

losing things that I might have had in my hand just minutes before. I get frustrated with myself! So I can imagine how this person feels. One of my sons tends to lose things and I have been very understanding about it because, well... me.

Having the same spot for something really does help. I even tend to park in the same spaces when I shop (pre-pandemic).

If I don't sort my mail immediately, I am doomed.
