UConn's Dan Hurley looks back on Maui losses, criticism, and Huskies' ability to 'save our season'

INDIANAPOLIS — By now, you may have read the quotes or heard them off the postgame press conference.

Dan Hurley, still chaffed at the criticism leveled at him and his program following three straight losses to unranked teams at the Maui Invitational a month ago, threw some not-so-subtle jabs on Saturday afternoon.

“I’m not sure how many people, at that point in Maui, were on their stupid podcasts saying we’d be 10-3,” Hurley said after the UConn men’s basketball team’s 78-74 win at Butler. “Not all podcasts are stupid, just some of them are. Some of them say stupid (stuff).”

He wasn’t done.

A few minutes later, he told CT Insider: “What makes us very proud is that, after everything that’s been said and all the different narratives surrounding the team and myself and the players and the program, to be one game behind where we were last year at this time overall, and to be one game ahead in league play, I’m pretty proud.”
