Sichuan Yuanda Meile become first-ever FIBA WBL Asia champions

CHENGDU (China) - Sichuan Yuanda Meile Basketball Club made history by becoming the first-ever champions of the FIBA Women's Basketball League Asia (WBL Asia).

The reigning, two-time WCBA titlists accomplished as much following a 74-69 victory over the Fujitsu Red Wave in front of over 8,000 fans at the Jinqiang International Event Center on Saturday night, completing a three-game sweep of the contest.

Han Xu led the Pandas with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks for an efficiency of 26, eventually earning tournament Most Valuable Player honors.

Gao Song finished with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds for 23 EFF, while Wang Siyu supplied 14 as they helped repel their Japanese counterparts.

Akina Uchio, meanwhile, made 17 points, while Yuki Miyazawa scored 13 points for the WJBL champions, who finished the competition at third place with a 1-2 record.
