Dover doctor: Medical missions help bring normalcy to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico

Dr. Kirill Alekseyev said he'll never forget the blue roofs he saw flying into San Juan, Puerto Rico, in February 2018, four months after Hurricane Maria ripped through the Caribbean island.

It was his first trip, and he was armed only with Tylenol "and these two hands." But it was not his last. He returned last month.

Not roofs

On that first trip, what Alekseyev thought were blue-colored roofs turned out to be hundreds of blue tarps covering dwellings and businesses.

"Looking out the window when we were landing was breathtaking and not in a good way," the Dover doctor said. "You wonder what these people went through."
