Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumA question for the ones pushing for Warren to be Biden running mate
First, shouldn't she endorse him, first?
I hope that he has enough self respect not to beg someone who has not.
But even if this bit of obstacle gets out of the way:
Neither she nor Harris, perhaps others, are not the kind who would be second to anyone. This is why they ran to be president in the first place.
Though, when there are more than 20 running: Republicans in 2016 and Democrats now, many just want to get into the headlines to secure a cabinet position. Or to sell books..
And one would hope that Warren has her own self respect to after asking in what primaries Biden was running, to not now change her opinion and to decide that he was right.
In general, nominees do not choose running mates from previous rivals, certainly not aggressive ones who would overshadow them.
Reagan chose papa Bush because he was low key.
Similarly Obama selected Biden in 2008 because Biden dropped after Iowa and because, yes, Biden is a low key which does on occasion aggravate many supporters. Also, Biden's vast experience in foreign affairs which Obama lacked.
As I have posted before: Biden, while does not need any advice for me, should select someone who can be in a lockstep with him so that if he does not finish his term and, no doubt, he is well aware of it, will not try to then start his/her own ideas.
Bill Clinton, a young 45 year old candidate said how strange it felt to select a running mate, like picking Hillary's next husband.

(415 posts)I think Biden respects her smarts, can benefit from her policy writing, and knows hes a one term, so he wants to choose someone who will be effective and can take on the presidency successfully. Shes more progressive, but shes willing to compromise. I think shes the best choice.

That said, Biden wanted her to run with hm in 2016, so all the mewling that they dont sync up is nonsense bullshitting from the underinformed.
And health wise, Warren has more physical energy than most 40year olds, and one of the most agile minds in government today.

(26,474 posts)Even though she was my choice in the primary, and as much as I would like to be wrong in this case, I do not see Biden picking her. I personally expect someone like Lujan (New Mexico), Masto (Nevada) or Klobuchar.

(17,757 posts)Biden is going to run with a woman, I think that is a given. Unless Biden chose Sara Ubetcha Palin as a running mate, it won't matter who runs with him. The right is going to support trump, the left is going to support whoever runs against him.
The VP selection is chump change in this game. I hope that the old boy chooses a woman that is fully capable of running the country in case something happens to him; there are a lot of good choices.
Alright, I said it, now I am putting on my asbestos drawers....bring it.

(7,972 posts)(Except LBJ at his height accepted the VP role under Kennedy. And lucky us he did!)
Harris and Warren should stay in Senate.
Harris, soon enough, will be Calif.s senior Senator.
With Senate in D hands she could be Chairperson of Judiciary!
And Warren, with her experience and seniority - will chair finance committee.
With both of them in those positions: Oh. My. God!!!
So for VP under your conditions...?
In another time Id have said no - to Andrew Cuomo.
Not now.

(25,197 posts)Neither Sens. Warren or Harris are right for the ticket. Joe needs someone who will not make him look like second place. One of the things that minimized John McCain was the way that conservatives treated Sarah Palin as the rockstar.
Joe Biden needs someone who can benefit from the experience of serving as VP in his administration, who will be complimentary to what he needs to do to reunite this nation. Such an apprenticeship would make that person a superb President in her own right when it becomes her turn.

(31,891 posts)If he chooses a running mate who is already in their 70's, it's unlikely that she/he would be in a position to run for the office after Joe's term is completed.
I would like to see Democrats leading the country for years to come. Republicans have become toxic.

(113,892 posts)mind than Elizabeth Warren.
If Warren would be too old at 75 to become president in 2025 then what are we saying....that a man can be capable at 79, but, a woman at 75 cannot?

(31,891 posts)Frankly, I would have preferred a younger candidate this year, but that didn't happen. That's why I hope Biden picks a running mate who has a long future ahead of them.

(10,451 posts)Biden ran for president before - in the year Michael Dukakis got selected.
And as for Elizabeth Warren being VP - I like the idea because she has a ton of plans ready to go on a variety of things. She would do great as a VP. Katherine Harris, Amy Klobuchar, many others - would make great vice presidents.
I'm going to trust Joe and his team will make the right pick. My political wet dream would be Michelle Obama as VP, but Donald Trump is more likely to walk on the moon by Christmas.

(7,078 posts)Nor would she accept. Not the best choice for VP. She has much more authority in her current role, plus a GOP governor would likely replace her with a gopper. Bad choice demographically and ideologically.
Not an issue, IMO

(58,785 posts)We are supporters and voters, not members of Biden's and Warren's circles of influence.
Please understand, insiders in each campaign know FAR more than anyone else does. WE are clueless. Reading a few articles that may or may not have a nugget of value does not make us informed, and we have far more blanks than otherwise, lacking almost all information necessary to understand this situation.
Anyway, if Biden-Warren is a possibility, it will follow much the same pattern as Clinton-Warren did. And the pros all know what that is.

Looking back its only about 30% of the time.
Truth is none of the former candidates make sense for the VP slot. They are all from blue states and wont help flip a swing state.

(5,748 posts)should anything happen to him. That will be his prime consideration I think. Only someone very much suited for that will be the pick. She'll need to be a leader, understand economics, be creative and sympathetic. The question is who. Warren would certainly fit the requirements, as would some others.

(1,231 posts)Senator Warren raises former VP Biden's polls against this president.
President Obama picked VP Biden in part because Joe Biden was the number 2 pick for most Iowa Obama voters.
Joe Biden was not a back seat walk flower by any stretch of anyone's imagination.
Picking a strong nominee signals Joe Biden's strength in his own character, once more the opposite of this president.
VP Biden needs to pick a candidate who can hit hard with facts. There are few better at that then Elizabeth Warren.
