Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumDoes anyone have an idea why repugs in Wisconsin forced the in-person primary which endangers lives?
I mean it's a primary, not Dem against repug. And repugs have to get out there and endanger their lives too if they want to vote. And the repugs on SCOTUS even backed up the dangerous, reckless foolishness.
What do they think they've getting out of it?

The decision carries grave repercussions for the state of Wisconsin — and democracy more broadly. As Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg notes in her dissent, “the presidential primaries, a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, three seats on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, over 100 other judgeships, over 500 school board seats, and several thousand other positions” are at stake in the Wisconsin election, which will be held on Tuesday. Of all these seats, the state Supreme Court race, between incumbent conservative Justice Daniel Kelly and challenger Judge Jill Karofsky, is the most hotly contested.

The R's originally wanted these other elections to be held separate from the Presidential primary so as to decrease turnout. When that failed they were determined not to delay given COVID-19.

(84,969 posts)Their numbers are dwindling. They know this. They're VERY aware that the more people vote, the more Democrats will win. They know the only way they can still cling to power is to keep as many people from voting as possible. Neat, huh? AND WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT THEM, 'EH? That they have to CHEAT to win? That they have to RIG THE GAME to win?
I think we all know the answer.

(38,197 posts)whenever they please during this pandemic. I cannot help but notice that. You do have a fair question there, but I don't think the Republican vote is going to be suppressed, because a lot of them believe it is a hoax and are out there doing as they please anyhow.

(38,197 posts)They claim to be "pro life" but they are a death cult, in reality. They like to see people suffering. They get off on it. I kid you not. It's how they really are. I live in a red area of a red state. You would not believe the depraved way they think and the joy they get from watching people suffer. Republicans are sickos.
Several Republicans have also recently admitted that larger voter turnouts are bad for them. So, they have a direct and clear agenda here to suppress turnout by forcing people to vote IN PERSON during the worst possible time to leave the house. It is like they are openly torturing and mocking voters. That comes as a shock to people when they don't know just how low Republicans will go to get their jollies torturing people. Hint: Republicans will dig when the low they need to sink to is not low enough. They want to see just how depraved they can behave.

is your problem? Did you respond to someone else?
I just said that the GOP wants to stack the court to allow them to hurt DEM elections in 2020
Having them now is criminally insane not matter who is pushing them. Or does that go over your head?

(18,807 posts)It's a naked power grab by Republicans.
They value power over lives and don't care who knows it.
The vote is not just the primary, there are many local politicians and judges to be decided.
They explained that the fewer people that vote the better are Republican chances are to win.
To extend absentee voting would allow many to vote that normally don't and increase Democratic odds.
Also few poll workers have volunteered so there are few polling places open.
They also said that this is likely to be a harbinger of things to come for other states.
They didn't mention that having fewer polling places will create bigger crowds which will increase virus infections.

(12,712 posts)Or even reiterate...
I have seen many references to how voter suppression and low turnouts are what keep the GOP going. I also agree. They really would be rather obsolete by now if they didn't do whatever they can to gerrymander, suppress, etc.
It's a good reason to call them ReTHUGlicans, because how can that kind of chicanery be called legitimate? Then they deflect from it and the media repeats what they say when they just blame everything on the legitimate, opposing party.
In this case, they may be counting on more gullible, conspiracy prone Republican voters to show up than others. There may be enough that think COVID-19 is overblown, a hoax, not that bad, like the flu, etc., to increase the number of votes for them.
