Without a doubt, the comments, opinions, and yes - the stupidity - that are bandied as "news" are hurting society.
Social media is not great either, since "opinions' often rank as facts to the ill-informed.

Many think that it is just a product of being uneducated. I think it goes deeper. I've known several folks who did not go to college who can read through the lines, are smart enough to not believe news from just one biased source, and understand the issues we now face.

There is a reason Rupert Murdoch is not well-regarded in his previous home county - Australia.
