Ted Cruz Gets Brutal Smackdown From Largest Newspaper In Texas - Ring of Fire

In an op-ed published in Texas’ largest newspaper this past weekend, the editorial board of The Houston Chronicle blasted Republican Senator Ted Cruz for his attempts to “vilify, inflame, and divide” the country. They were specifically calling out Cruz’s comments about Luigi Mangione, the alleged gunman who killed the CEO of UnitedHealth, where Cruz claimed that he was another radical left ideologue with anti-capitalist views. Cruz is trying to shift the target to the backs of those of us on the Left, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains.

This past weekend, Republican senator Ted Cruz of the State of Texas was blasted by the largest newspaper in the state of Texas, the Houston Chronicle. Here's what happened Last Monday, Ted Cruz got on Twitter once. Luigi Mangione was arrested as the prime suspect in the murder of UnitedHealth, CEO. Brian Thompson. Cruz got on Twitter and said, this leftism is a mental disease. The suspected murderer and Ivy League graduates subscribed to anti-capitalist and climate change causes according to law enforcement. And the murderer has been widely celebrated by leftists online, tragic, and sick. The disgusting senator from Texas had to say. Now, in addition to the Houston Chronicle's response, which I will get to in a moment, let me point out a couple of things, because once this individ individual was arrested and charged for the murder, again, it's all alleged right now because he has not been convicted and he has not confessed.

So people went through this guy's social media, right? He has ex expressed conservative viewpoints. He has expressed a lot of libertarian viewpoints, and sure, he's also expressed some leftist viewpoints. But nowhere through any of that, has anybody really been able to nail down a specific ideology that this guy subscribed to. He kind of seems to be a little bit of everything, honestly. Seems like a true independent with some libertarian leanings, but definitely not a leftist. He's no more a leftist than he is a full-blown MAGA hat wearing conservative. Nevertheless, Ted Cruz used this as an opportunity to smear every one of us on the left as having a mental disease.

We are the ones with a mental disease. Your party put up a convicted felon to be the president of the United States, but we are the ones who have the disease. Ted Cruz, you supported a man that insulted your wife's appearance, implied that your father killed JFK, yet we're the ones with a mental disorder, right? Either way, here is what the Houston Chronicle had to say this week. He leapt into the swirling headlines around the murder of United Healthcare, CEO, Brian Thompson and Su, uh, Thompson, excuse me, and suspect Luigi Mangione by doing what he does best, flattening complex issues and people into sound bites or social media posts that vilify, inflame and divide. They continued blaming the vengeful anger on leftism

Cruel health insurance practices in this country are their own kind of disease. Cruz could help heal it if he wanted, but that would require doing his job. Here's what Ted Cruz was trying to do, and by the way, I do love the takedown from the Houston Chronicle, full credit to them. But what Cruz was actually trying to do is shift the target because right now, because of what happened, you know, a a, a multimillionaire CEO gunned down on the sidewalk in New York City, that's terrifying to everyone in a position of power. That is why security firms have, of course, been overwhelmed by calls from billionaires, millionaires, and even lawmakers like Cruz himself. They're the ones who are scared right now. And Cruz wants to shift the target off of the back of the wealthy and powerful and put that target on the back of everyone on the left by claiming we're all the same, by claiming that we are the ones, the only ones celebrating this death. Look, I'm not celebrating anybody's death. I don't think it's ever okay to just murder somebody. I, I'm not cool with that.
