city that were run by two guys from India in a partnership. They employed some family members as well as white, non Indian people. At the store near at me, one employee was a white woman from Canada.
The Canadian employee was a very RW Trump supporter, although not a citizen and not able to vote. She often closed the store 30 to 60 minutes early so she could meet up with friends. Customers never knew if the store would be open in the evening or not.
One partner bought out the other one and put his son in charge of running the store.
The Canadian woman's hours were cut to part time, partly due to customer complaints. So she took a second job and started taking days off here and there. Then she took off a week to go out of state with friends. The manager's wife filled in while she was gone. When she returned, they fired her.
I encountered the Canadian woman on my way into the store as she was coming out after being fired. She went on a rant to me about it, said, "I guess they don't want White people here any more." I said that it was probably a business decision and nothing to do with race. She said, "I've been in this country longer than they have so I have more of a right to work here than they do." So I said, "It's probably because you're not here half the time anyway, so why blame it on race? I don't do racism."
And I walked away, inside the store.
