35. Good list! Wanted to add to your list, or elaborate more...

-roommates to afford rent? Hell, 1/2 the time my roommates were all still w/o money to pay the rent.

-four part time jobs at same time to make ends meet

-And not just a single degree, four degrees ... the one that paid off was my 1 year (that's all they had back in the 70s) in IT

-thing that saved me was being a software engineer (a trade, that nobody knew anything about back then), had basically no student loans (two scholarships paid most of bills, lucky, lucky, lucky), and retirement funds are a bare minimum left over until I got into Social Security finally.

I can easily see how hard it is to 'make it'. Even the kids today, that are making $200k yearly, are struggling, after housing, taxes, etc. takes a hell of a wallop out of their checks. These kids are barely able to buy a 2nd vehicle.
