In reply to the discussion: I won't forgive people who voted for Trump. [View all]summer_in_TX
(3,294 posts)88. Me too. I still have hope that some of them will have their eyes opened and hearts and minds changed.
But why would they ever, if they are never going to be forgiven?
Most are not the hardliners, and anyway they were fooled by a whole system designed to brainwash them. They're marks who have been conned, victims.
They did not know what they were doing. They should have but they were deceived. Their vote will definitely harm many. But I separate those who intended to harm them from those who were deceived and believed the lies.

They vote for a felon for President of the United States. There is no repentance that is sufficient.

I won't forgive the people who voted for Trump and put bumper stickers on their vehicles bragging about it.

Not mere "different views". Voting for Trump indicates a deep moral deficiency in one's character, well worth avoiding.

My 88-year-old sister has cut my 78-year-old brother and his wife off because of Trump.

Agree. Life is too short to cut people off, especially family, because of politics. n/t

Agreed. Being a white male in the business world in the Midwest, I don't really have the option to ostracize Trump

The catch with forgiveness is that we forgive for our own mental health, not theirs.

Sure, only my opinion. Resentment and grudges cloud my ability to focus on the here and now.

No one cares if you do or not. I doubt very much they care or want your forgiveness.

I go a step further, I won't forgive those who voted third party or didn't vote also.
