although heaven knows Putin is evil, and old=school communist is not what he is by any stretch. He's more like a Christian Nationalist, the church on question being the Orthodox church. He's cozy with the church hierarchy, and, like American Christian Nationalists, doesn't mind a bit using the church to enslave the people.

Classic Communism - not that we've ever seen it in practice, because in order to live that way everyone involved needs to be almost too virtuous to live - but classic Communism in theory didn't have dictators and didn't tolerate religion. Putin is more of a Fascist. (Stalin was too. Which makes the history of WWII very interesting.)

Hearing a Christian Nationalist like Johnson call Putin an "old-school Communist" is probably more a low point of absurdity than the height of it, but absurd it is. Although most Americans likely won't see it. It's not only critical thinking which hasn't been taught for too long, but also the importance of individual words - that they have actual and specific meanings, and that using them otherwise is death to communication.
