In reply to the discussion: Zelensky Fires Back at Lindsey Graham Over Resignation Calls [View all]DENVERPOPS
(11,982 posts)the rain (charred debris runoff) is almost as bad as a normal wildfire or worse.......And vegetation and trees won't grow back until your grandchildren are adults. And, if the tons of charred debris flows into a water reservoir, the water it is unusable for some time.......
These most horrific wildfires,(in the fire service they are called conflagrations), the wind fed fires reach a much higher temperature, and actually melt the sand in the earth to glass, forming a "crust", so new growth can't take roots. On several major fires here in Colorado they said at first ...60 years which is normal....... After the first year, the wildlife people looked at the ground in those areas, and adjusted the return to a normal forest being estimated at 600 years. Due to the high winds in these worst fires, it literally turns the fire into a blast furnace, with temps reaching over 2000 degrees F........
Sadly, we lost 13 highly trained and experienced "Hot Shots" here in Colorado a decade or two ago, that got caught in a wind driven fire, and they could not run fast enough and their individual/personal fire shelters were of no use in those kinds of temps......
