Plants are a bad idea because if they have pets that they share their home with it, that plant could be fatal to the pet. My in-laws use to to pass easter lilies on to me and I would give them away to others that didn't have pets in the home. This went on for several years, so I had the added stress on what to do with this plant that I didn't ask for or want.

Foods are a bad idea because of food allergies/sensitivities/intolerances.
