I'm in my late 50s, and although I've certainly heard of them, I've never actually eaten a poached egg.

No, poached is my pick. My favorite is sunny side up but with salmonella fears, I don't eat eggs that way now.

My neighbor has hens and a roster. They are free range. He gives us the eggs for free.
