The Yardbirds disbanded in 1968 leaving their 4th member, Jimmy Page, with the band's name and concert obligations in Scandinavia. Page knew John Paul Jones and asked him to be bassist. Page first offered a different singer the gig, but he declined, recommending Robert Plant, who brought a fellow band member of his, John Bonham, for drums. The group completed the Scandinavian concert obligations as The New Yardbirds.

It was after that tour was completed, they went in the studio and recorded Let Zeppelin's first album in 1969.
