32. skipped part of my story

Over the years, i have purchased another 503, plus one for parts. Story got too long. I just bought this recent 503 off Ebay. I used to take my 503 to a sewing machine shop for a tune-up every few years, but the sewing machine shop closed long ago.

Over the years, i was able to make simple repairs on my own and U-Tube has some helpful videos on repairing the old machines. The fire in the upstairs of our house gave off a toxic smoke that ruined the thinner metal springs like the ones that control the presser foot and the bobbin winder.

The 503 I just bought showed samples of the stitches sewn on fabric and I could see from the pictures that the tension was set correctly and the stitch control did not show worn paint, usually a sign of heavy use.
