Crochet/knitting newbie question: [View all]

I'm looking at a pattern that calls for 2 balls of X. If I substitute Yarn y of the same weight (worsted for worsted), I assume I need to match the yardage. So if 2 balls of X total 500 yards, and 5 balls of Y total 500 yards, I'm OK.

is this right?
