The whole collectors thing has gone crazy. It's more about bragging rights than the guitar. To me a guitar was always a poor mans instrument and the price on these guitars in no way reflects there sound quality. Just because you play the same guitar as a famous player won't mean you will sound like them. a lot of guitar tone is in the player. the people who buy these expensive guitars are generally not players, but simply people who know how to manipulate a thin market. However, Its not a great loss because electric guitars are not vintage violins and you can pretty much get the sound you want in an inexpensive guitar. Actually Gibson had dropped the Les Paul because it wasn't selling and went to the SG, but because Mike Bloomfield played one they brought it back.
