I actually met David Pryor in Springdale while he was Senator, and he really impressed me. Back then, we had two excellent Senators, Pryor and Dale Bumpers. In fact, Arkansas had had some remarkable representation in the Senate since the 1930s, including Joseph Robinson who was FDR's right-hand for New Deal legislation in the Senate, and J. William Fulbright of Fulbright scholarship fame, who was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Fulbright was succeeded by Bumpers. Unfortunately, our recent Senators have not been able to fill the shoes of their esteemed predecessors.
