by our government absolutely amazes me.

My own grandparents didn't live close to me growing up but my one grandmother was definitely a positive influence and she inspired me from a distance. My daughter's grandparents all lived very close and were very active, supportive and influential in their lives much to their, and I believe society's, benefit IMO.
