A while back we were driving back to Chicago from NC and wanted to visit Golconda, ILL... [View all]

We went through Padukah, Ky on the interstate and saw a sign "Golconda, Il 20 miles north. OK!
So we drove the required 20 miles north, got some gas and then looked around for a sign to Golconda....found one "Golconda, 20 miles south&quot !!!) What?
So we drove 20 miles back south from whence we had come....and found the pleasant, sleepy little town.
Can anyone explain the weird route?

Thanks very much.
