Governor eyes taxpayer refund after nearly $300M discovered in account [View all]
In the equivalent of finding some money in the pocket of the winter coat you hadnt put on in months, the state has discovered it has nearly $300 million more than it thought to put into the general fund.
Gov. Mitch Daniels said an auditor for the State Department of Revenue discovered that some corporate taxes, being paid by electronic check, had been sitting in an account and, because of a programming error, had not been properly attributed to the state general fund. The checks had been cashed, the money was earning interest and the state knew it had the money; it just wasnt added in to the states main checking account total.
Daniels announced the windfall in a jovial mood, standing before a Charlie Brown Christmas tree as he noted that Christmas came early and flashing a Monopoly card as he compared this to one of the games cards that tell players: Bank error in your favor.
Democrats found it anything but funny. Senate Minority Leader Vi Simpson, D-Ellettsville, noted that in the past few years the governor has cut public school funding by $300 million from what the legislature appropriated, as the sour economy shrunk state revenues. Those cuts resulted in some districts in layoffs and program cuts.

Who would have guessed, Mitch Daniels lies and cuts education by 300 million and the 300 million needed to pay for education is found in a "lost" account. I'm so sick of this bull crap from Bush Jr.'s office, I can only hope Mike Dence does not become governor because if he does, we are all fucked. Sorry for the language but that is the only word to describe it.
