Bankrupt Gawker says goodbye with pizzas and cheap beer [View all]

Well that’s a very Gawkward goodbye.

At the bankrupt company’s farewell party Gawker’s executive editor compared the sacrifices his staff made defending lawsuits secretly funded by Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel to the sacrifices endured by the family of slain Army Captain Humayun Khan.

“We just had a conversation, a national conversation out of the DNC,” top editor John Cook told a crowd of 200 people gathered at Gawker’s Manhattan headquarters Wednesday night.

“When the father of a soldier who was killed in battle said, ‘Donald Trump, what have you sacrificed,'” Cook continued, referencing the now-famous speech by Kizer Khan.
