Yard sign frenzy in Erie [View all]

"When David Matthews (the Trump campaign's then-organizer for western Pennsylvania) came here in 2016, everyone told him they wanted signs," recalled Tim Kuzma, a volunteer with the Erie County Republican Party. "He said, 'You know, they really don't have much impact,' but people kept saying, 'No, no, we want signs, we want signs.'"

Kuzma estimates that between 5,000 and 7,000 standard yard signs and 100 4-foot-by-8-foot signs were distributed four years ago and thousands more have been handed out this cycle.

On the other side of the aisle, there were fewer than 1,000 signs around the county for then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, said Erie County Democratic Party Chairman Jim Wertz.

This year, however, the party has already distributed 15,000 signs for Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris, as well as 60 4-foot-by-8-foot signs. He expects as many as 5,000 more signs to be distributed by Election Day.
