We bash parents for being “helicopter parents” and not letting their kids just run around outside free anymore, and then we put them in jail when they let them out of their sight.

Assuming her 8 year old is neuro-typical and able to safely navigate a quiet neighborhood to his own house, this is absolutely ridiculous.
