12. Be careful of Washington State

West of the Cascades (think Seattle) it is progressive, and also pricey. East of the Cascades it's Northwest Alabama.

If I was going to move to Washington and money was a concern, I'd think hard about either Burien or Tukwila. They're super close to Seattle - jump on the Link Light Rail and you'll be in downtown Seattle in just minutes - but they're far enough away that houses are still reasonably priced.
