chose to make cars the most common type of transportation(henry ford killed transit early on) public transportation has been seen as less important.

No way I could afford a car and there is a big segment of the population that cant afford one either .

Public transportation in the suburbs/country is bad and way underfunded. and the mayors that are racist make it very difficult to get from suburbs to the cities because they think black people will take over the suburbs.Racist/Classist bullshit is another reason public transport sucks.Because they assume people can drive they underfund public transport as well.Just wait until the oil runs out...
