OLYMPIA, Wash. Congressman and former King County Sheriff Dave Reichert has filed paperwork with the state to run for governor, instantly becoming a Republican front-runner to replace Gov. Jay Inslee.
Late Friday, former congressional candidate Jesse Jensen tweeted "Incredibly excited to say its official! Dave Reichert is running for Governor! We need the Sheriff who doggedly brought in the Green River Killer to clean up this State."
In addition, the Public Disclosure Commission website showed that as of Friday, Reichert had officially registered as a Candidate for the 2024 cycle.
Reichert served in Congress from 2005 to 2019 and represented the 8th Congressional District. He's been frequently mentioned in Republican circles for a statewide office since he retired. He rode into Congress after a lengthy career as the King County Sheriff, in which he notably tracked down Green River Killer Gary Ridgway after years of investigations.
