The local government structure where I live on the outskirts of Sheffield is different to the more central part of Sheffield where I grew up. (The area of Sheffield where I live now has a Parish Council and the area of Sheffield where I grew up does not.)

Before I moved back into Sheffield I lived in Derbyshire, which has a different local government structure, which has also changed since I loved out with the introduction of East Midlands Regional Authority.

And I also spent time living in Colchester, where the local government structure is different again!

So how local government is organised depends greatly on where you live, and the devolution that's happened in my lifetime has created more anomalies than it's resolved!
