1. Given so few of recent generation cohorts actually wear a watch, I think it will be an uphill climb

Still, the hard core fitness crowd might adopt it, as they have fitbits and other wearable tracking devices, so I'd bet they do sell quite a few of the entry level "sport" watches. The "status" symbol crowd might as well, but I'd bet a lot of them will find themselves satsified with the mid-level stainless steel variety for $500-$600.

Time will tell. I still wear my 20+ year old small Tag Heuer watch.. It just feels right and still looks good. If they work out enough kinks in the apple watch over time, I'd consider a sports watch as I'd love to be able to track heart rate without having to wear a chest strap monitor. The accuracy of current technology--including apple's optical sensor-- is not likely to be good, however.

As to the original question--would I spend $10K on a gold apple watch? Not on your life (even if handed the money). $350? maybe..
