1. I have a raspi 3 running an old version of slackware arm.

An even older one (just collecting dust now) provided us with a way to play movies when lightning wiped out our entire home a/v system. gmplayer was a bit weird and limited -- e.g., you had to do 'gmplayer ./*.VOB' to play the contents of a dvd. It was smooth except for the half second or so when switching from one VOB to the next.

I haven't connected anything to a raspi other than typical computer peripherals, so I'm missing most of what they can do.
