Donated most of the stimulus funds [View all]

Last edited Sun Jul 5, 2020, 07:40 PM - Edit history (1)

Last March I posted here that we really did not need the $2400 stimulus. As retirees we did not lose any jobs and our Social Security Benefits are still arriving (fingers crossed) and am withdrawing from IRA as needed, about half of what the RMD would have been (the other half is being rolled over to Roth).

As of yesterday, we have donated $2100 to charities and to candidates. Most were $100 and $200, some less, just responding to solicitations with lower requests.

And, except one, all were paper checks using the postal service. In hindsight, I wish that I would write in the Memo line: Courtesy of the stimulus package.

All recipients were grateful, of course, but the most heartfelt thanks came from the Pacific Mammals Center in Laguna Beach, CA where I doubled my previous donation.

It was not the usual form letter - nothing wrong with this - "your donation means more than you know and even during the most normal of times this is an EXTRAORDINARY show of generosity."

Yes, still feeling goose bumps just typing this.

And, I know that we will get more solicitations and will gladly respond.
