2. Safer for cars, maybe, but every lane makes it harder for pedestrians.

Extra lanes for bikes, sounds good.

In California, terrible legislation in 1970 forced planners to build more lanes or move new projects further from destinations because cars are king and congestion was bad for the air.

The result was sprawl and the state now scores projects differently: reduce vehicle miles traveled = less sprawl.

Transit and bike lane and sidewalks are the better way to go, but we also need to build housing closer to jobs, affordable housing.
