5. The issue is credibility among the Palestinian people.

Even if a majority of Palestinians don't approve of Hamas rule,
Hamas gets more credit for doing something, however counter-
productive, than Abbas. Palestinians are more credulous
of Hamas propaganda than that of the Israelis killing them.
That shouldn't be a real surprise.

Even if annihilating Hamas was a realistic prospect, it is only
a short term fix without a credible alternative government.
Netanyahu's proposal for hand-picked puppets will not
accomplish this.
