Rice University marching band trolls anti-LGBTQ rival during halftime with stunning display of pride [View all]
Rice University students mocked a rival schools anti-LGBTQ policies during a football game over the weekend with an incredibly display of solidarity with the community. Baylor University has refused to recognize a student group for LGBTQ students, saying homosexual behavior isnt permitted at the Baptist school.
The Rice University Marching Owls Band performed a halftime number complete with the Village Peoples YMCA and dozens of rainbow and trans flag-waving students and alumni to bring attention to Baylors insulting denial of recognition.
We just think thats kind of ridiculous, Chad Fisher, a spokesman for the band told the Houston Chronicle. And so we all got to our show writing meeting Sunday, and we were like, Oh my gosh, this is like exactly what our show needs to be about. We absolutely need to call Baylor out for this. From there, it just kind of happened.
A spokesperson for Baylor refused to comment, but pointed the Chronicle to a previous statement from the universitys president.
