8. The music and cinematography are ominous enough

But the show is well-scripted and well acted too. My favorite episodes are "The Architects of Fear", in which Robert Culp agrees to be transformed into an alien to unite the people of earth against a common enemy, the ultimate "the other"; "The Zanti Misfits', which features adorably angry-looking insects the size of a cat; "The Sixth Finger", where David McCallum evolves into a future human with a giant head and extra digits. I loved the show as a kid and felt compelled to watch even though it scared the hell out of me. I remember being relieved when an episode aired featuring two aliens, who looked like people, experimenting with time manipulation, so no "monster of the week" in that one to haunt my dreams.
