TMJ pain can be caused by a number of factors, including: Stress or anxiety, Trauma to the jaw or joint, Muscle spasms, Misalignment of the jaw (malocclusion), and Arthritis.
To ease TMJ pain, you can try:
Taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain relievers
Applying a warm compress to the jaw
Avoiding teeth clenching, gum chewing, and nail biting
Practicing good resting jaw posture
Wearing a soft or firm oral splint or mouth guard
Physical therapy
