You have not 'erred'. There are always family members that are just toxic and not good for you. It sucks. They are family. In my case, it is an uncle and my mother. They are just not good for me to be around. So, I avoid them whenever I can. I describe it like this: I love them, but I don't like them. I dunno if that makes sense, but there it is.
