I was in one last week to pick up some Carhartt stuff that was on sale and asked a clerk about them.

He said they sell them to local farmers (Illinois) for weed control and ice removal. They won't sell them online, but you can walk in and walk out, no questions asked. The ones thy sell run on diesel.

OTOH, I had to show My driver's license and FOID/CCW card before I could buy a small box of 25 ACP for my Baby Browning.
