"I did a phone interview with the Sacramento Bee about the Nicki Stallard's article. I spent 15 minutes on the phone educating the reporter on the types of danger transgender has to face, from the perspective of being a secondary victim, but also as a witness to police's nonchalant blame-the-victim attitude here in Oakland. People have to understand that this type of hate crime is essentially lynching, that victims are "hunted" for sport. There is no negotiation from the victim with the "hunters". They want the prey dead, period, if they can do it, while the police behaved more like wildlife watchers and observed the aftermath with amusement, often siding with the predators as if it were the Safari."

why are politicians so unwilling to allow victims the tools to protect themselves?
