that isn't what they are buying. AFAIK, ARs are not that popular. Their pistols carried for self defense, especially the Ruger LCP, is very popular. A lot of people don't think about things like flood insurance or fire extinguishers until a black swan lands near them. When that happens, they go "shit that could be me". A friend of my daughter was supposed to be there, but he got stood up. Is he rethinking his opinion on guns? Maybe.
