That is fiction which reads like non fiction. I love Michener because I always feel like I am sitting at the feet of a great storyteller when I read his books. The other reason I like his books: each section is like its own little novella and all these novellas are loosely connected by some sort of continuous family line or location. You can read a section, go off and read something silly or just put it away for a bit then come back to the next section, because that next section will be like a whole new story.

For someone his age, I'd recommend Centennial. The Western US setting should be appealing.
